On October 23, 2024, key stakeholders convened in Nabeul, Tunisia, to follow up and review progress on the “Nabeul Ville Verte” (NVV) programme, a climate adaptation and energy transition initiative supported by the EU’s “Climate for Cities” (C4C) program.
The visit occurred parallel to the Clima-Med 7th Steering Committee Meeting held in Tunis. Ms Cristina Casella, Program Manager for Climate Action at the EU’s Directorate General NEAR, and the Clima-Med team providing technical assistance for the NVV project were welcomed by the Secretary General of the commune of Nabeul, Mr Hicham Bayouth, the architect in charge of coordinating the project, Ms Hajer Béjaoui, and the project coordinator, the Project Manager from the ICU “Institut pour la Coopération Universitaire”, Mr Riccardo Mariani, and other engineers and architects from the commune.
The municipal team presented the results achieved so far, the following steps and the significant challenges encountered in the first two years of project activities. Ms Casella also took the opportunity to offer some practical advice to the municipal team on how to comply with EU partnership procedures.
During the second part of the day, participants took a field trip to areas and districts of Nabeul, such as El Jadida El Maghribiya Street and Habib Bourguiba Avenue, where public lighting has been converted to energy-efficient LED lamps, A little further on, they were able to discover municipal sports facilities such as the Nabeul Plage hall and the large Bir Challouf basketball hall, which will be fitted with solar water heaters as part of the NVV project.
Overall, this time of exchange served as an opportunity to review the progress of the “Nabeul Ville Verte” project, supported by the European C4C program.
