A key training workshop on climate and energy planning took place on February 12 and 13 at the headquarters of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (TTA) regional council. The event brought together local elected representatives and administrative executives from the region, as well as representatives of the Association Marocaine des Présidents des Conseils Communaux (AMPCC).

This initiative, backed by the Clima-Med project and the Covenant of Mayors for the Mediterranean (CoM Med), has two main objectives: to strengthen and accelerate the establishment of a national support mechanism for developing Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SEACAPs), and to assist local authorities in their efforts to fighting climate change.

Over the course of these two intensive days, participants benefited from in-depth training that covered several key aspects of the tools developed by Clima-Med that included:

  • The fundamentals and principles of the Covenant of Mayors for the Mediterranean
  • A detailed manual for preparing the SEACAPs
  • The Climate Finance Guidebook

Strategies for effective Communication and networking These sessions, alternating lectures and practical debates, are part of the Clima-Med project’ ongoing efforts since 2018 to sustain the work undertaken at national and local levels, s while also providing support other communes and regions across Morocco.

At the conclusion of the workshop, representatives from the TTA regional council expressed their willingness to join CoM Med. They committed to promoting the initiative among the region’s communes, inviting particularly those involved in the SLECproject to join as well.

The Clima-Med team has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the region and its communes in the accession process and in developing their SEACAPs. The project is currently working to set up a National Support Mechanism for SEACAPs in collaboration with the AMPCC to strengthen coordination between communes and the Association of Moroccan Regions (ARM) allowing the AMPCC to strengthen work between the communes and better coordinate effective actions at the regional level.
