Main features:

Al Tod is an ancient city with high historical value. It includes in its flanks a branch of the Pharaonic, the Islamic and the Christian civilization, established by Prince (Drias al-Kurdi) at the time of Salah al-Din. The historical heritage, the cultural characteristics and the strategic location between the banks of the Nile River and it’s proximity to the eastern desert makes of it an interesting place.

Main economic activities:

The agricultural sector in the village is of great significance. It is one of the most important sectors for the local economy growth. At the first place, Al Tod city is characterized by the cultivation of sugar cane, bananas and wheat. The commercial sector in the city is ranked second after the agricultural sector: most of which depend on agricultural production in the center. Simulating the agricultural sector will directly boost the commercial sector.

Regarding the industrial sector, a major thing to mention is that there is a butane bottling plant in the city supplying all areas of the governorate with butane gas tubes. Tourism also plays an important role in the economy of the town where many cultural and leisure sites attract visitors. Tourism also plays a role in the local economy with the presence of an important historical heritage.

Conditions and environmental challenges:

Al Tod enjoys the availability of essential services such as electricity, water and road networks setting the basis for a descent life for in inhabitants regardless of the rate of occupation of its work force. Most of the citizens in Al-Tod, representing 60% of the population, work in traditional governmental jobs such as local councils – education – health – electricity – irrigation – archaeology – railways and in the tourism sector. Moreover, 25% work in the agriculture sector and trade. This city is known as being sunny and dry. Its average high temperature can go above 40 °C during summer (June, July, August), during the winter the average temperature remains above 22 °C. Its precipitation level can be less than 1 mm.
