On May 25 and 26, 2023 in Tunis, Tunisia’s Ministry of the Environment organized the International Investment Conference for Implementing Tunisia’s National Determined Contribution (NDC) which aimed to expose and discuss the main priorities set out in Tunisia’s NDC, enabling a paradigm shift towards a sustainable, inclusive and low-carbon development model.
The event organized with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and GIZ, was inaugurated with introductory remarks by the two ministers of Environment and Agriculture, respectively Ms Leila Chikhaoui Mahdaoui and Mr Abdelmonim Belaati. Several other guests of honour participated, including Dr Eman Ahmed Al Salami, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Tunisia, Mr. Peter PRÜGEL, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Tunisia, Ms Céline Moyroud, UNDP Resident Representative in Tunisia, Ms Mariana Panuncio – Feldman, Country Engagement Director of NDC-Partnership and Mr Hichem Elloumi, President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA) in Tunisia.
The Clima-Med project took part in the two-days conference, where a series of enriching presentations and debates on the priorities of Tunisia’s NDC and the operational arrangements for its implementation were organized; a number of priority NDC projects on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks reduction, taking into account Tunisia’s specific vulnerability were also presented.
The conference was an important opportunity to ICU and the Municipality of Nabeul which participated jointly to promote the Nabeul Ville Verte project, NVV, beneficiary of “Climate for Cities, C4C”, launched and co-financed by the European Union with technical support from Clima-Med. They were able to present the project to the attending institutions and technical and financial partners, exchange views with actors and projects involved in waste treatment and recovery, and explore synergies with national and international stakeholders active in the fields of the environment, sustainability, climate change and the circular economy.
The C4C programme aims to contribute to sustainable human development by promoting a transition to greener cities that are resilient to climate change in the Southern Neighbourhood, in line with the commitments made by countries under the Paris Agreement, and by making optimum use of climate financing instruments.
